The former bit on the other hand is pure conjecture. thousands of Davids experiment (after he left the Engineer homeworld no less), Daniels discovers Walter is actually David just as shes about to enter. The Progenitors are humans and the Kushan are their descendantsThe latter bit is actually pretty well-hinted within the backstory of the second game and stated outright in earlier versions of the game's script.
